A Douglas man has been remanded at the Isle of Man Prison after admitting burgling a grocery store in Pulrose.
31-year-old Christopher Christian, from James Street, used a rock to smash through the glass at The Top Shop on Alder Road last Thursday.
After unsuccessfully opening the till he proceeded to steal four bottles of alcohol worth £38 before making off in a stolen car.
At Douglas Courthouse yesterday Christian pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary and of taking a black Mitsubishi Shogun from Tynwald Inn in St Johns without the owner's consent.
He also admitted driving whilst disqualified, dangerous driving, failing to stop and failing to report a crash and driving with no insurance.
He stole the vehicle between 10pm on March 1st and 6am on March 2nd - after targeting the shop at 7.05am on the 2nd he drove onto St Ninian's Road where he crashed into another motorist.
Instead of stopping Christian mounted the pavement and drove around the damaged Citroen C3 - he was arrested later that day after an off-duty police officer spotted him in Peel.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes committed Christian for sentence at the Court of General Gaol Delivery saying the offences were "aggravated" by his "substantial" previous convictions.
He will next appear there on March 20th.
